SHORT ANSWER
Laravel (PHP) is an excellent choice for data-heavy business applications — admin panels, CRMs, reports and forms — because it includes authentication, queues and database tools out of the box and runs on inexpensive hosting. Node.js is better for real-time features such as chat, live tracking and notifications, and when your team uses JavaScript end to end. Both are mature; choose the one your future developers can maintain.
Quick comparison
| Factor | Laravel (PHP) | Node.js |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | CRUD apps, admin panels, reports | Real-time apps, APIs, JS-heavy teams |
| Built-in features | Auth, ORM, queues, mail, validation | Choose your own (NestJS adds structure) |
| Hosting | Cheap shared or VPS hosting works | VPS, containers or serverless |
| Hiring in India | Large PHP/Laravel talent pool | Large JavaScript talent pool |
| Real-time | Possible (Reverb, Pusher) | Natural fit |
How we decide for clients
- What does the app mainly do — forms and reports, or live updates?
- Who will maintain it in two years — your team, a freelancer, us?
- Is there existing code or a team skill set to build on?
- Where will it be hosted, and on what budget?
For an existing Laravel application, upgrading and extending it is almost always cheaper than rewriting in Node.js. For a new product with a React front-end and real-time needs, Node.js (often with NestJS) keeps the whole stack in one language.
Questions
Is PHP still a good choice in 2026?
Yes. Modern PHP 8 with Laravel is fast, well-supported and widely used for business software. Old PHP versions are the problem, not PHP itself.
Can Laravel and Node.js work together?
Yes. A Laravel API can serve a React or Next.js front-end, and a small Node.js service can handle real-time features alongside it.
